ABOUT MARKERS
Markers can be used for sketching, colouring, illustrations and calligraphy.
They come in two types: water based and alcohol-based markers.
Water based markers are easier to blend but should be used with heavier paper, as they may cause the paper to buckle when layered.
Alcohol based markers can be blended using rubbing alcohol and can even be used with thinner paper.
They come in a variety of tips including fine, brush, chisel and flat tips.
Many markers are dual tipped and can be identified by the symbols on the barrel.
These markers are available in a wide range of colours, typically from 24 to 80 shades.
ABOUT OIL PASTELS
Oil pastels are both a sketching and painting tool.
They have a thick, buttery texture and come in intense, vibrant colours that makes your artwork stand out with a bold look.
Oil pastels require no drying time or any additional tools like brushes.
They can be blended with turpentine and can adhere to many different surfaces, making them perfect for mixed media artwork.
You can use them alongside dried acrylic, gouache, watercolours and oil paints.
Artists often prefer a wide range of colours, from light to dark, since the pastels are mixed directly on the paper unlike paints.
